About Maldivian Aviation Academy (MAA)
Inaugurated on 28th December 2021, Maldivian Aviation Academy (MAA) is a flying academy wholly owned by Island Aviation Services Limited (IASL) which also operates Maldivian, the national airline of the country. Located at Gan International Airport, Addu City, MAA is one of the premium flying academies based in South Asia which paves the way for the next generation of pilots in the aviation industry.

Our Campus
MAA takes pride in its unique setting, combined with the experience of our instructors, state-of-the-art equipment and standardized course methodology, which guarantees a training experience like no other.
MAA has its own theory examination center, lecture facilities, ground school briefing rooms and in-house maintenance facility. As the sole academy in the region with an advanced simulator, we pride ourselves on delivering top-tier aviation training aligned with industry standards. Our theory examination center allows our students to undertake their theory exams in-house thereby saving time and money on having to visit an external examination facility.
MAA strives to foster a greater sense of community by providing cadets, staff and visiting airline representatives with opportunities to share experiences.

Our Fleet
Our academy has a fleet of 06 aircraft, including 05 Cessna 152s with Garmin Avionics (03 Cessna 152s VFR-Equipped and 02 Cessna 152s IFR-equipped), and 01 Tecnam P2006T equipped with Garmin G1000 Nxi Avionics.

Our Location
Addu Atoll is the southernmost atoll in The Maldives. There are altogether five inhabited islands which are Feydhoo, Maradhoo, Maradhoo Feydhoo, Hithadhoo, and Hulhumeedhoo. All the islands except Hulhumeedhoo are joined by a 16km link road. These six administrative districts have a unique character from the rest of the country.
Maldivian Aviation Academy is situated at Gan International Airport in Gan Island of Addu City. Gan International Airport was originally built by the Royal Air Force (RAF) as a staging post during the 1950s. Before the RAF, Gan was an inhabited island, but the inhabitants moved to other islands after British airbase was built.

Integrated CPL with MEP Rating & ATPL Theory
Comprehensive program designed to provide students with seamless learning experience. The program includes both single and dual flight trainings in single and multi-engine aircraft.

Instrument Rating (IR)
Instrument Rating (IR) enables you to fly under instrument flight rules solely by reference to cockpit instruments. IR training goes beyond what is required for PPL and CPL and includes rules and procedures specific to instrument flying.

Multi Engine Rating (MEP)
Our Multi Engine Rating program adds Multi Engine privileges to your existing Commercial Pilot License.

Flight Instructor Rating
Our Flight Instructor Course imparts knowledge, skill and aeronautical experience necessary to meet the requirement for the attainment of Flight Instructor (Aeroplane) Rating to instruct students for a PPL and a CPL in a Single Engine aircraft.

What is MAA?
Maldivian Aviation Academy (MAA) is one of the premium aviation academies in South Asia. MAA was established on 28th December 2021.
Where is MAA located?
It is located on Gan, Addu City of Maldives.
How do I get to MAA?
There are two travel options to Gan: A direct flight to Gan International Airport or a two-step flight journey through Velana International Airport, including a 1 hour 20 minutes connecting flight to Gan.
What type of simulator is used in MAA?
AT MAA, we have FNPT-II simulator. We have Evolution Elite s812 FNPT II Simulator, which is one of the most advanced simulators used for initial pilot training. MAA is the only aviation academy with this simulator in South Asia.
What are the training aircraft used in MAA?
Currently there are a total of six aircraft in MAA. We have 5 Cessna 152, single engine (VFR) and from which two are Cessna 152, single engine (IFR). All five of these aircraft have two seat capacity. We also have TECNAM P2006T, multi engine aircraft with four seat capacity.
How many hours of theory I must do?
Students must complete 750 hours (6 months) of theory to complete the course.
What is the instructor: student ratio?
For flying we maintain 1:6 instructor: student ratio.
How are the ground classes carried out?
Ground classes consists of online and offline instructions. Minimum 10% of the ground classes will be conducted offline in our facility. Students will need to complete 6 months of ground classes.
What are the health requirements to enrol into MAA?
There are specific health requirements for MAA. But students need to complete class 1 medical to enrol in the course.
What are the documents required with the application?
Students need to submit their academic certificates and completed class 1 medical.
What are the academic qualifications required for Integrated CPL/IR with ATPL Theory?
Minimum academic qualifications required is O' Level or an equivalent qualification with passes in English, Physics, and Mathematics.
What are the eyesight requirements?
Requiring correction to your vision will not restrict from a career as an airline pilot if the student has distance visual acuity of 20/20 or better in each eye with or without correction.
What about colour blindness?
If you are colour blind, you would not pass the class 1 Medical, hence would not be eligible for pilot training.
Are there height restrictions?
There is no height requirement to qualify to train in MAA.
How do I confirm if I am eligible for pilot training at MAA?

Are there any additional procedures for international students?
International students would need to complete VISA process for international students before the student commences training at MAA. We would assist all the students in the VISA process.
Are there any hidden charges other than the course fee?
No hidden charges for courses at MAA. In fact, MAA does not collect any other fee than those included on the course fee.
Do I get accommodation at the campus?
MAA does not provide accommodation for students on campus. However, we will assist the students to get accommodation in Addu City.
What would be an estimate expenditure for a student living in Addu?
Including food, travelling and accommodation the living expenditure will be around 300 – 400 US dollars per month.
